Paper Bag Puppets

Take ordinary brown lunch bags, other odds and ends around the house, and your imagination to make creative and fun hand puppets.

Supplies

  • Brown paper lunch bags
  • Construction paper, poster board, cardstock, and/or craft foam
  • Sequins, glitter, yarn, buttons, and other decorative items
  • Watercolor paints (optional)
  • Glue or paste
  • Scissors

Directions

  1. Assemble all of your supplies. The list above is just a guide. Use your own imagination and creativity, and make it appropriate for your child’s age.
  2. Glue or paint a face onto the bottom outside surface of the bag, so that the mouth is near the fold that would face down when you hold the bag upside down.
  3. Add hair, a hat, a bowtie, buttons, etc. to make your puppet a unique character. Have fun with this!
  4. When everything is dry, place your hand inside the bag with your 4 fingers (but not your thumb) in the bottom section of the bag. Grab the fold between your fingers and your thumb and make your puppet talk.
